I've order my transcend, when am I going to receive it?
The Transcend GPS is a very popular product. Shipment is scheduled to take place by December 2nd, 2010. Note that there may be changes to this schedule and we will notify you of any changes.
Where Do I start?
The Transcend comes with a partial charge to preserve battery life so the first thing you should do is plug it in to top off the lithium cells. This is also a good opportunity to get familiar with the interface in Recon HQ and create an account.
What is a HMD? Where is the image?
The Transcend has a small display mounted in the lower right hand corner of the goggle frame. In contrast to a Heads Up Display projected on the lens the Transcend is much less obtrusive and consumes far less power. It is the ideal display for this application's size and power consumption requirements.
What is Recon HQ? Do I need to sign up for this?
Recon HQ is the best place to keep track of all the information your Transcend is collecting along with staying current with updates to the goggle's software. Although we encourage you to sign up for the online community that goes along with it, it is not required. Download the software
here.
What will this goggle tell me? What are the different screens for?
The Transcend displays stats about your ski run in real time while Recon HQ makes it easy to review the day when you can plug in to your computer. The Dashboard or default screen in the Transcend displays current speed, the ability to start and stop your chrono, a clock so you never need to take your gloves off and a customizable space for your altimeter, thermostat, odometer, or vertical odometer. Other screens will allow you to review information about the last run you took, cumulative data from your different odometers, and your chrono records. Finally there is a preferences pane that allows you to customize the dashboard, change units and language, and set the date and time while wearing the goggle.
Is it waterproof?
The Transcend is designed for active snow use and the entire electronics module is sealed, it should not fail because of water penetration but it's worth noting that the Transcend is not fully waterproof and cannot be submerged in liquid H2O. If you have any reason to believe that water may have gotten inside the electronics module turn the Transcend off until it can dry fully.
Can the statistics be in English units, ie mph as opposed to km/hr?
The goggle is capable of displaying units in both Metric and US Imperial units of measurement. The Default units are Metric and can be changed in the preferences pane of the goggle.
Are the goggles resistant to fogging?
Both lens options in the Transcend, and all Zeal goggles for that matter, are double layer lenses with our proprietary permanent anti-fog treatment. The permanent anti-fog means that there is nothing to wipe off and your lens will last much longer than other brands.
How fast can the Transcend go?
The Transcend is currently able to display speeds up to 150kmh or about 92mph, however, if there is a demand for higher speeds the software can be adjusted and the limit raised. Be very careful if you are skiing at 92 MPH!!!
What happens when the battery is no longer good/doesnt hold a charge?
The Lithium battery pack in the Transcend is for a lifespan between 300-500 complete cycles which, for most of us, amounts to years of GPS enabled skiing. If the battery pack were to fail the goggle would need to be sent to our workshop for replacement...it's buried pretty deep in there.
What does the goggle weigh?
256 grams. To put that in perspective the Transcend weighs slightly more than the Eclipse goggle that it was based on, once mounted on a helmet the difference is unnoticeable.
What is the power capacity?
The rechargeable Lithium battery pack in the Transcend is a 1200mA unit which can last up to 8 hours at room temperature and up to 6 hours at -10C (14F). Below -20C (-4F) the battery life may be significantly impacted. It is not recommended for extended use at these lower temperatures.
Does the Transcend show trail maps? When will this be available?
At this time the Transcend does not display maps of where you are or where you have been. These pieces of information are accessible when connecting the goggle to the ReconHQ software. Development of mapping is underway, however, release dates for the application have not been set please check back soon.
Is the Transcend Helmet compatible?
The Transcend is helmet compatible with a good strap connection to keep it from floating on the helmet. Furthermore, the spherical lens allows a large frame like the Transcend's to fit into the opening of small and medium helmets.
Is the Transcend Rx-able?
The Transcend's display reduces the amount of space available for glasses or RX adapters and as a result we can't recommend their use a this time.
